League of Eight Teams 2010/11 The Competitions Committee have decided to restructure the divisions to reduce the travel distances in the lower divisions. The first two divisions will be as now, on a Berks-and-Bucks wide basis but division three downwards will have two, equal status, A and B, sections each of 5 or 6 teams playing each other twice on a home-and-away basis [as currently happens in division 5]. The allocation to these sections will be on a ‘least travel best fit’ basis. The initial positioning of teams into divisions will be done on exactly the same basis as before, ie a ranking list produced from the 2009/10 results after promotion/ relegation on a 2 up, 2 down basis, removal of any withdrawing teams and entry of any new teams. The only difference is that there will need to be at least ten teams in each of the lower divisions. Promotion/relegation at the end of the season will be on a ‘1 up,1 down’ basis for each section of the lower divisions and ‘2 up, 2 down’ for divisions 1 and 2. This decision is in response to suggestions we received during our visits to clubs as part of the Welcome to BBCBA event. The deadline of 6th July for entries is being extended by one week to allow clubs to consider whether this change will enable them to enter a team/additional teams.

Welcome to new members of Berks & Bucks Contract Bridge Association (BBCBA)From 1st April 2010 all members of affiliated clubs automatically became members of BBCBA and the English Bridge Union (EBU). Previously individuals had to elect to join and paid a subscription. Now there will be a big increase in the membership of BBCBA and the subscription is replaced by a ‘Pay-to-play’ system whereby 35 pence/player is paid for each duplicate session at your club, of which 29p goes to the EBU and 6p to BBCBA. On behalf of the committee of BBCBA we hope that you will enjoy your membership and feel it is worthwhile. We will be issuing you with our annual Members Handbook in the summer but meanwhile this is the front page of last year’s handbook which describes what we try to do What is Berks & Bucks Contract Bridge Association (BBCBA) and why do we exist?BBCBA is a non-profit making organisation that ‘belongs’ to you, its members
Our Objectives are:
We
aim to meet these objectives by: Our philosophy has three main aspects:- i) Ordinary county competitions should break-even ii) Surpluses on League of 8, League of 4, County Teams and Pairs go towards the entry fees of the winners representing BBCBA in the relevant national competition iii) Pay-to-play income to cover overheads, the annual Berks v Bucks match and the BBCBA team in the inter-county competition (the Tollemache). |
